“Doing well, by doing good” is a phrase we’ve come to embrace at HMI. To us, it means that philanthropy and business success are not mutually exclusive concepts—in fact, we consider them complementary. As a result, we’ve partnered with a number of clients in the past few years to integrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives into their group incentive travel programs. One such program involved Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas, “one of the world’s leading manufacturers and providers of material handling, automation and fleet solutions.” This initiative was highlighted in an article by the Rewards Recognition Network.
During the company’s annual “Pack for the Sun” program held to support the UniCarriers Forklift brand, they made good on their mission to “move the world forward” by agreeing to implement a CSR event into their trip itinerary. This event focused on boxing up and providing non-perishable food and hygiene items for local families in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Participants were also encouraged to write personal notes to the families, with the entire process being coordinated by a local Destination Management Company (DMC).
Despite being optional, the event was well-attended by trip participants—a mix of dealer principals, sales managers and salespeople—and the whole activity was completed in under an hour. Michele Todd, Manager of Marketing, had this to say about the initiative’s impact: “This program helps give people a perspective, and it was wonderful to be able to give back.”
With travel once again becoming a popular and safe option, more and more companies are looking to utilize it as a reward for their participants. One way to reimagine this opportunity and maximize its value is through a unique and seamless CSR initiative.
